Houghton's Pond Beach

Conflicting official information: one DCR/MassWildlife page states a parking fee applies during swimming season, while the DCR Blue Hills Reservation page lists parking as free. No swimming/entry fee beyond parking is mentioned.

This is a purpose-built DCR family swim beach: seasonal lifeguards are on duty, the beach has an accessible beach mat and beach wheelchairs, and there's a playground reachable from the Hillside St entrance plus a bathhouse and first-aid station. One caution for parents: the pond itself is an unusually deep glacial kettle hole (max depth ~42 ft), so it gets deep beyond the supervised shallow swim area, stick to the lifeguarded zone with young kids.

No significant hike is required. The swimming area is close to parking and access.

Two lots serve the pond (a larger one at the main beach, smaller ones on the far side). Boats are not permitted on the pond. Fishing is allowed along the entire shoreline except directly from the beach. Dogs are prohibited on the beach (leashed dogs may be permitted elsewhere in the reservation). The recreation area is gated outside of operating hours and the seasonal swim period.
