About Find Swimming Holes

Finding a real swimming hole is harder than it should be. Many of the best spots have no address, no website, and no business hours. Map apps mix them in with municipal pools and splash pads, and plenty of online lists repeat each other without checking anything.

So we built the directory we wanted to use: 1,216 natural swimming spots across 48 states, each one verified before publication. A spot only makes it here after being confirmed on natural freshwater in USGS hydrography data, matched against public-land records, cross-checked with federal and state recreation databases, and researched for first-hand evidence that people actually swim there.

Every listing shows its facts with sources behind them: fees, rules, parking, seasons, hazards. When we could not confirm a detail, the page says so instead of guessing. If you spot something outdated or wrong, tell us and we will fix it.

A note on safety

Natural water is wild by definition. Depth, current, and water quality change with weather and season, and no directory can promise conditions on the day you visit. Check locally, watch the water before you get in, and never swim alone.
