Lake Springs Recreation Area

$5 per vehicle day-use fee; credit card only; Federal Interagency Passes accepted.

Designated, managed USACE reservoir swim beach (not a wild swimming hole) with no current or waterfall hazard, glass prohibited on the beach, and leashed pets permitted. However, no source confirms lifeguards on duty, exact water depth at the beach, or bottom conditions (sand vs. rock), so supervise children closely rather than assuming a fully guarded/graded beach.

No significant hike is required. The swimming area is close to parking and access.

Official recreation.gov listing states the lake (J. Strom Thurmond Lake) supports boating, water skiing, jet skiing, and canoeing; a boat ramp and dock are on-site and open year-round. Kayaks and paddleboards are not explicitly named in official material but would typically be permitted under the same general boating access on a large open reservoir, this is a reasonable inference, not a confirmed fact, so it is omitted from the allowed list.

Late April through Labor Day (roughly April 28-September 6) when swim beaches and shelters are open; the region has hot, humid summers and mild winters.

Glass and pets are prohibited on designated swim beaches; day-use hours are 8 a.m.-8:30 p.m.; no alcoholic beverages; no fires; group shelters must be occupied by 2 p.m. All swim beaches, picnic tables, and group shelters close after Labor Day (Sept 6) and reopen April 28, except Deer Run beach, tables, and shelter, which are open year-round.
