Big Oaks Recreation Area

Beach sits on a gently sloping, grassy 12-acre reservoir shoreline (calm lake water, no current/waterfall), which is friendly for wading and casual family swimming, but this is an unguarded Corps of Engineers beach with no lifeguard and no marked swim-depth boundary. Corps rangers publicly warn Hartwell Lake swimmers never to swim alone or under the influence of alcohol/drugs and to wear a life jacket, so direct adult supervision is warranted rather than free-range play.

No significant hike is required. The swimming area is close to parking and access.

Paved on-site parking lot and paved internal roads throughout the 12-acre site, described as ADA-accessible; parking/swimming/picnicking itself is free, but a $7-per-vehicle fee applies only if launching a boat at the two-lane ramp.

Site has a two-lane boat ramp with courtesy dock built for trailered motorboats; no posted no-wake/electric-only restriction specific to this launch was found.
