About Lake Delton Public Beach

Lake Delton Public Beach is a municipally managed swim beach on Lake Delton, a dammed lake in the Village of Lake Delton adjacent to Wisconsin Dells. The Village posts seasonal hours and beach rules for it, making it an officially designated public swimming spot rather than an informal or hidden one.

The beach sits on the shore of Lake Delton, a man-made lake formed by damming a stream near the Wisconsin River in 1926-1927 for recreational purposes, within the built-up resort town of Wisconsin Dells/Lake Delton.

Swimming at Lake Delton Public Beach

Official swimming is permitted at the designated beach area but is unsupervised (no lifeguard on duty, swim at your own risk), consistent with a casual, family-oriented lake beach rather than a remote natural swimming hole.

How to get to this swimming hole

The beach is located on Park Drive, Wisconsin Dells, WI 53965, within the Village of Lake Delton, about 0.3 miles from the village center.

Parking: Onsite parking is available at the beach, per the official facility listing.

The walk in

No real hike here. The water is a short walk from where you park. This is a drive-up municipal beach on Park Drive with an onsite parking lot; no trail or hike is involved to reach the water.

Watercraft are not launched from the swim beach itself; the Village operates a separate Newport Boat Launch on Lake Delton (70 County Road A) with a $8 daily / $50 annual permit fee, where the Village warns of strong current and dangerous undertow in that stretch of connected Wisconsin River water and requires PFDs. Commercial rental outfitters on the lake offer kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, pontoons, ski boats, and WaveRunners, indicating the lake broadly accommodates both paddle and motorized craft; no beach-specific no-wake or watercraft-exclusion rule was found.

Backstory

Lake Delton was built beginning in winter 1926-1927 by William J. Newman and the Dells Area Development Company as a recreational lake; a swimming area called 'Beach Gardens' operated there from 1927. On June 9, 2008, flooding caused a catastrophic dam failure that drained the lake into the Wisconsin River; the dam was rebuilt and the lake refilled by April 2009.
