Lake Elmo State Park

Montana residents: no daily fee with a $9 vehicle registration decal. Non-residents: $8 per vehicle or $4 for walk-in/bicycle visitors, per the official FWP fee schedule.

Lake Elmo has three official beach-front swim areas within a small, fenced/developed urban state park, which makes access easy for families, but the official FWP amenities list does not document any lifeguard service or posted water depth/drop-off information at the beaches, so adult supervision is warranted. No hazards (currents, cliffs) are documented since it is a still-water reservoir, not a river.

No significant hike is required. The swimming area is close to parking and access.

The park charges a per-vehicle day-use fee, implying dedicated vehicle parking near the beach/facility areas; FWP publishes a downloadable park map showing parking and amenity locations, but the map's exact lot layout/capacity could not be read in this pass.

FWP's activity list explicitly names paddleboarding, kayaking, canoeing, and windsurfing, plus a boat launch for hand-launching; no reference to rental equipment being available on site.

May through September, when potable water service is turned on; the park is open year-round for day use including winter activities like ice fishing and ice skating per the FWP activity list.

Day-use only (no camping), open daily year-round 5am-10pm. Only non-motorized boats (kayaks, canoes, paddleboards) are allowed on the water. Alcohol is prohibited park-wide. Dogs are limited to two per visitor in the fenced dog park (must be leashed elsewhere), and must be at least 4 months old.

Lake Elmo State Park is on Billings Bench Water Association Canal, a natural reservoir verified in USGS hydrography data.
