📜Backstory

The beach park adjoins Camp Vanasek, a youth camp on Whipple Lake with roots dating to 1952. Crow Wing County owned the Camp Vanasek property until the City of Baxter acquired it in summer 2021; the Brainerd Family YMCA began operating a year-round daycare there in August 2021. In 2020, Baxter city officials discussed COVID-19 social-distancing measures for Whipple Beach after noting it was one of the city park system's highest-attendance gathering spots in warm weather, and that temporary closures had led to increased uncollected trash and vandalism.
