Silver Lake Park

Silver Lake is one of Athol's two official public swimming beaches and is staffed with a lifeguard during the summer season, which supports family use. However, exact water depth at the entry point, presence of a roped-off shallow area, and bottom conditions were not confirmed in any source found, and the beach has been closed to swimming at least once (August 2025) due to E. coli bacteria levels, so parents should check current town water-quality postings before visiting.

No significant hike is required. The swimming area is close to parking and access.

June through August, when the Town of Athol staffs the beach with lifeguards (subject to funding/staffing availability per the town website).

Fishing (for species such as perch, sunfish, and pickerel) is permitted with a Massachusetts fishing license but is not allowed from the beach itself. The Town of Athol monitors bacteria levels and closes the beach to swimming when E. coli exceeds safe thresholds, reopening once retesting confirms safe levels.
